Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month

October is Adopt-A-Dog Month!  With nearly 10 million animals entering local shelters across the country each year the Adopt a Shelter Dog Month helps focus attention on the pet population problem. Your local shelter is the perfect place to find dogs of every type, size, age and personality — all waiting for a loving home. Or, if you prefer a particular breed that isn’t currently available at a shelter, go online to find a breed-specific rescue group in need of adopters like you.  Find a shelter near you by plugging in your ZIP/Postal Code at PetFinder.com

If you’re looking for a dog to add to your family ~ Consider adopting a shelter dog!

Comfort Homeless Animals

Even the youngest among us can give back with this fun idea:

If your child is part of the new knitting craze, help her/him knit, quilt, crochet or sew blankets to donate to Hugs for Homeless Animals’ Snuggle Project (snugglesProject.org).  The hand-crafted “snuggles” are given to shelters to help animals feel more secure and comfortable while waiting for a permanent home.

It’s mid-summer, and if you’re lucky enough, you’ve probably had a chance to get away and soak up some sun at the beach. After your beach vacay – take some time to upload a travel photo from the trip you’ve taken at http://www.zorro-the-cat.com/ and “The Traveling Cat” site founder will donate $5 to either the World Wildlife Fund or the SPCA!
Since December, 2007, Zorro has donated nearly $400!
