Children’s Safe Drinking Water

An estimated 1.1 billion people worldwide are without access to clean drinking water. That’s approximately a quarter of the world’s population! Don’t you think that water should be seen as a basic human right and not a luxury?
I thought so.
Here’s what you can do to help provide fresh water to those in need for only pennies a gallon. Head over to Children’s Safe Drinking Water at http://www.csdw.org/ and make a donation to a program that distributes PUR packets (a powder that makes unsanitary and potentially deadly water drinkable). For a donation of just $0.10 you can provide one packet that will clean up to 10 litres of water! A donation of $1 will provide a child with fresh drinking water for 50 days. And, a donation of $30 gives an entire family clean water for a full year.

Day 17 of 30 Days/30 Ways to Give: ADOPT AN ANIMAL

Did you know that nearly 85% of pets in shelters and rescue programs were given up over resolvable issues? According to a recent Petfinder.com survey, 84 percent of animal adoption organizations reported having adoptable pets who were relinquished because of issues that could have been resolved with proper training and resources.

Today’s Give Back Action: Adopt a Pet

Petfinder.com, is the oldest and largest database of adoptable animals on the Internet. The site currently has more than 295,500 homeless pets listed, and it is updated continuously. More than 13,200 animal welfare organizations in the U.S., Canada, and other countries post their pets on the site. You can learn before you adopt, search for adoptable pets, find adoption groups, post a pet classified ad, or sign up to be a volunteer. Pet seekers can enter their search criteria, such as size, gender, breed and age, and get back a list of adoptable pets ranked in proximity to the searcher’s Zip code. It gives potential adopters a photograph, a description of the animal and contact information. Since Petfinder is updated on a daily basis, you can keep checking back or save your query so they’ll send you an automatic e-mail when new pets are added that match your search. You can also search by using the breed list or look for a pet in the classified section.
