Day 12 of 30 Days/30 Ways to Give: ITS TREASURE, NOT TRASH

One of the single best ways to make a difference without too much time and effort is to reuse, recycle and donate as much stuff as possible to charitable organizations.

Today’s Give Back Action – Think outside the landfill.

Bring your old running shoes into Nike stores that are hosting the Reuse-a-Shoe program ( They’ll turn the shoes into surface material for playgrounds, basketball courts, and running tracks for children!

Donate old eyeglasses to organizations like OneSight ( and Unite for Sight ( who will distribute them amongst needy people who can’t afford them.

If you have a junk drawer full of coupons, comb through the expired ones (up to six months past expiration) and donate them to The Overseas Coupon program ( which serves military families in overseas bases.

Before you trash anything, look at the charitable potential!
